About Me

In my work overall, I have a love of nature, a love of craft and experimentation, and a deep awareness that we are transformed by everything that we engage in.

I have traveled the interior and exterior landscapes of the world in the development and expression of my talents.

Inspired through the mystical union of spirit and nature, I follow the path of art as it emerges for me. Inspiration arises in forms of visual art, written word, ceremony, and singing/songwriting.

Visually archetypal or anthropomorphic, my work thematically recognizes nature as teacher, as provider – as physical, transcendent, animate in spirit. 

In addition to my solo expressions, I enjoy working with individuals and groups in the exploration of the creative process in various forms of collaboration and facilitation.

The Sun Vessel in partial view on the left half of the image and the Moon Vessel in partial view at the upper right. Sun vessel has a gold-leafed interior with a thorny gold-leafed rose stem bisecting the gourd lengthwise across the top from stem to base. A black snake enters from the lower left curving across the bottom toward the center. On the opposite side of the thorny rod above, a clear glass triangle rests inside, pointing upward, and resembles a puddle of light. A raised bump is visible above the puddle of light. The rim of the vessel is a deep blue and silver. An interior view of the Moon Vessel reveals the concave silver surface having a translucent blue-violet wash in a few areas as well as a faint magenta wash at some of the upper edges. The rim is stained gold and vivid red. Interlaid inside the vessel are groupings of silver maple seed pods that look like outspread wings. Glimpses of the external sides beneath are visible, showing the raw amber surface of the gourds with some lines and script partially visible.
A diptych of etched and painted weathered slate tiles, has gold leaf imagery of cocoon and leafy branch, with treatment reversed on each slate. Slates are positioned side by side on recycled barn wood backing within a used wooden window frame that has been gold leafed.

A close-up of this sculpture shows the upper left quarter of the art piece. The madrone wood of the ladder body is gold leaf on the outside and heartwood inside. A gold-leafed snake carved into the ladder cross back and forth to form the rungs that rising up to the head. Here a snake head appears as an eye, like the calmly lidded Sipa Barda's. Vibrant snake tongue extends across out of frame. The wooden ladder culminates in a feline shaped ear. The ear point holds up a partially visible convex cosmic egg in shimmering silver leaf, and blues. at the lower right side, partially visible at the center of the ladder body is a delicate brass spiral. To the left is a pronghorn antler reaching upward as its right arm. In its palm is held a moonstone cabochon.

This rectangular composite painting features a violet-hued square image of an Horus bas relief. In the relief, Horus bears a disc on his head and within it is the life cycle of a bird: egg, adult, and deceased. This violet image rests upon a radiant sunset background in golds at the base to pale violet at the top. Superimposed is an egg shape at each side of the square, pointing outward, and at the very corners of the background are sustaining symbols of the solar rays and djed pillars.

Artist's Bio

K. M. Ehrenfeldt is an artist of mixed media art pieces and installations. Having earned an MFA from San Jose State University in studio art in 1992, she still resides in San Jose, where she continues an active art practice.  In her art, she focuses on themes of transformation, rebirth, and regeneration, often referencing mythic story, icon and archetype.

Working the Creative Process

Some of my favorite ways of working with the creative process are with the natural cycle of the seasons, and in introspective sessions with individuals. The creative cycle as seen through the seasons covers the cycles of life; from emptiness through presence, conception through death, inspiration through fruition. This rhythm & pattern influences our bodies, hearts, and minds. This collaborative work takes its form as ceremonies, group presentations, and as individual counseling sessions.
