Inside Void – Become
Solo Show
Inside Void – Become was one of the stages within the Evolution installation. As visualized within meditations, Inside Void – Become spoke to a state of being experienced in life. That sense that the ground is shifting under our feet… maybe nothing existential is causing an upheaval, but we’re feeling unsettled for awhile. The inner terrain during this phase is a dynamically evolving space of mystery and light.
Visitors to this darked space of Inside Void – Become slowed, stopped, needed their eyes to adjust to the minimal light. They became quiet, listened to the slight hum of the space. As their sight adjusted, there was a realization that others were around them, surprising some. All around, haloes of light surrounding voids emerged, converged, floated in the distance. Once visitor’s eyes fully adjusted in this darkened room, the walls stained a rosy terra cotta hue came into view under that movement of shadow and light.
The only source of light, a life-sized figure sculpted of copper wire contour lines floated mid-air. In the center of that being was a velvety black space surrounded by pinpoints of light. Turning slowly, light and shadow moved across the expanse of walls. The walls took on a vascular, internal, cellular appearance. It was calming for some to experience, unsettling for others.
Inspired though meditative states of being, there was an aspect of seeing and being seen inherent in the experience of Inside Void – Become. Within the meditation, as the body relaxes and the senses elevate, the inner eye takes over. Seeing expands through all of the senses, images appear, the environment unfolds. No longer requiring an exterior light source, the inner light illuminates the surroundings, shedding its own light on the path and guiding the way. Inside, there is absolute peace and comfort, but the environment has changed, or has it? Is it your perception that has changed? Also, being a show on display, the artist herself is revealing more of her inner terrain, and being seen.
Even though there may be a solid sense of knowing the essence of oneself, who we are, there is an ever evolving aspect of growth underway. With a deeper awareness and willingness to change, the creative potential within may be engaged, visualized as a ring of light surrounding the void. To follow the light within and activate one’s transformation is an act of trust, for who we will ultimately become is a mystery.
